Description
This project would add rail capacity to the existing two-track lift bridge over the Cerritos Channel linking Terminal Island to the Alameda Corridor. An additional rail bridge with one or two tracks will be required to meet the forecasted doubling of containerized cargo in the next ten to fifteen years. The additional bridge will also enable smoother train flow along the Alameda Corridor and generally improve efficiency.
The new lift bridge would have the same waterway vertical clearance in the open position as the new adjacent SR47 Schuyler Heim Highway Bridge and would be built to the west of the existing railroad lift bridge.
The CP Long Beach Connector Project, a related rail system improvement, would realign ACTA's mainline track south of CP Long Beach providing a new connector track between the ACTA mainline track and the Long Beach Subdivision track. The project would provide an alternate connection to the Alameda Corridor in the event of emergency closure of the Texaco slot north of CP Long Beach.
