With 35 years’ experience in the transportation industry,
John Doherty was named Chief Executive Officer of the Alameda
Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA) in July 2003. He oversees
all financial, administrative and strategic planning matters,
and carries out policies set by the Governing Board. As the
agency’s lead engineer, he also supervises all program
management, engineering design and construction management firms
hired by ACTA, ensuring that work is delivered on time and on
budget.
Mr. Doherty has been a member of the Alameda Corridor team
since 1995. He served as ACTA’s Director of Construction
and Engineering from February 2003 to July 2003. Prior to
that, he was an Associate Principal with DMJM+HARRIS, serving
as Deputy Program Manager - Construction for ACTA’s
joint venture Alameda Corridor Engineering Team (ACET), comprised
of four leading engineering and construction management firms.
Prior to his service on the Alameda Corridor, Mr. Doherty
performed various engineering and business development consulting
roles for several major transportation programs, including
the Los Angeles Metrolink Commuter Rail Project, the California
High Speed Rail Study, and the Honolulu Rapid Transit System.
Mr. Doherty worked for 24 years with the Long Island Railroad,
the nation’s largest commuter rail system, where he
served as Vice President of Operations, Chief of Staff, Director
of Capital Construction and in other engineering, construction
and operations capacities.
Mr. Doherty carries a Master of Science degree in Civil
Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York and
a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from Villanova University.
He is registered as professional engineer in the states of
California, Hawaii and New York.
