Councilmember | City of Long Beach
Currently serving his first term on the Long Beach City Council, Gary DeLong represents Long Beach's famous 3rd District. Stretching along the Pacific coastline, the district includes beautiful Belmont Shore, Marina Pacifica, California State University Long Beach, Recreation Park Golf Course, Bluff Park, Alamitos Bay, Colorado Lagoon, the Los Cerritos Wetlands, and the Broadway Business District.
As a 3rd Generation Southern California native, Gary earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from California State University, Dominguez Hills and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. Throughout his college career Gary worked for AT&T and then advanced to become a telecommunications systems manager for Security Pacific Bank. Gary subsequently accepted a promotion with Carter Hawley Hale Stores, where he was responsible for managing their telecommunications infrastructure and deployment of advanced technologies. In 1988, he joined a Southern California based telecommunications company that was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy and closure. Gary rectified the company by increasing revenues, reducing expenses, and focusing on the customer, making the company profitable for the past 15 years. He moved the business to Long Beach four years ago and is currently the President & CEO of The RTP Group, Inc., a successful telecommunications management and software development company.
Gary has been an active community leader in Long Beach for over 20 years by serving on the City’s Economic Development Commission, the Aquarium of the Pacific Board of Directors, the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Council, the Long Beach City College Foundation Board of Governors, the Long Beach Public Library Advisory Board of Directors, the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ), the Rotary Club of Long Beach, the Wilson High School PTA, the Laurelcrest School for Girls Board of Directors, the ChildNet Youth & Family Services Board of Directors, and the Goodwill Industries of Southern California Board of Directors.
Councilmember DeLong lives in the Park Estates area with his wife Dawna and his daughters Danielle, Elizabeth and Katie.
