Honorable Gary DeLong | VICE-CHAIR
Councilmember | City of Long Beach

Gary DeLong is a third generation Southern California native who has lived in the Long Beach area for over 25 years.  His commitment to the Long Beach community led him to run for the Long Beach City Council, where he is now serving his second term representing the 3rd District.

Councilmember DeLong is currently Chair of the Budget Oversight Committee and the Federal Legislation Committee, as well as Chairman of the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority and the Los Cerritos Wetlands Authority.  Mr. DeLong also serves on the Board of Trustees for the Aquarium of the Pacific and the Board of Governors for the Long Beach City College Foundation.

As Chair of the Budget Oversight Committee, Gary has led the way in maintaining a balanced budget every year.  When the recession hit, Gary found ways to reduce government spending and eliminate waste, while protecting essential services such as public safety and infrastructure repair.  As Chair of the Alameda Corridor Transit Authority, Gary is a leader in ensuring our region is prepared to meet future transportation needs in order to remain competitive, grow our economy and create jobs.

An accomplished businessman, Gary has more than 30 years in the telecommunications industry.  He is currently President of The RTP Group, a telecommunications consulting company, which he joined in 1988 when it was on the verge of bankruptcy.  Gary initiated reforms and turned the business around by increasing revenues, reducing expenses and focusing on the customer.

Mr. DeLong previously served on the Boards of Directors for the Aquarium of the Pacific, Childnet Youth & Family Services, Goodwill Industries of Southern California, Laurelcrest School for Girls, and the Public Library Foundation in Long Beach, California; was Chairman of the Board for the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium; and a member ofthe Board of Directors for theLos Angeles Police Historical Society.

Mr. DeLong is a graduate of the California State University Dominguez Hills and the University of Southern California and where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing  and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA), respectively.  He has also been a State of California certified Foster Parent.

Mr. DeLong resides in Long Beach, California with his wife Dawna, and daughters Danielle, Elizabeth and Katie.
