Alameda Corridor Governing Board Names New Chairman and Vice-Chairman

The Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority (ACTA) Governing Board unanimously elected Kellogg to succeed Los Angeles Councilman Rudy Svorinich, Jr., who served as chairman for the past year. Kellogg will chair the board’s monthly meetings, sign official documents on behalf of the board and represent the agency at various public events.

"With construction under way at locations and excavation of the Mid-Corridor Trench scheduled to begin this summer, the Alameda Corridor is fast becoming a reality," said Kellogg, a Long Beach native and a councilman representing the Bixby Knolls area for 10 years. He works as a commercial and industrial real estate agent for a firm in Long Beach. "This is a project of national significance, and I look forward to the day when it is completed on-time and on-budget and trains begin speeding along the Alameda Corridor rail cargo expressway."

ACTA, a joint-powers authority of the cities and ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, is building a 20-mile railroad cargo expressway linking the ports to transcontinental rail yards east of downtown Los Angeles. It will speed the flow of cargo to and from the ports and easy traffic congestion by eliminating more than 200 at-grade crossings. Construction on the $2.4 billion project began a year ago and is scheduled for completion in 2002.

The ACTA Governing Board includes Kellogg, chairman; (name), vice-chairman; Svorinich; Los Angeles County Supervisor Yvonne Burke; Port of Los Angeles Commissioner Jonathan Y. Thomas; Port of Long Beach Commissioner George Murchison; Port of Long Beach Executive Director Richard Steinke, and Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Larry Keller.
